Your body is a marvelous creation. And you have the power to determine how your life’s health story progresses.

Proper Nutrition Essential for Humans and Animals

Proper nutrition is essential for both humans and animals. Proper nutrition is critical to maintaining weight, energizing the muscular system, digesting foods, enabling respiration and the central nervous system, regulating hormones, proper elimination, and reproduction.

Nutrients essential to the body can be categorized as water, protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, and vitamins.

Ranchers know how to get their animals to over eat and add fat.

They feed the animals a diet deficient in minerals.

Mineral deficiencies produce what is known as “pica” or “cribbing” in animals. In humans, this would be called “the munchies” or “the hungries” — the desire to consume more food.

If eating too much is your problem, it may well be caused by a lack of minerals. Your body is hungry for all the essential minerals it needs. So you consume colas, chips, and MoonPies because you are constantly hungry. But, these foods are unable to supply the nutrients your body craves.

Scientific research and experience showed us how proper nutrition can double or triple the lifespan and eliminate most diseases in animals. While veterinarians understand how proper nutrition can extend the healthful life of animals, medical doctors cling to their belief in operations and expensive pharmaceutical drugs.

Human Health

Without the proper nutrition humans develop various diseases.

You are probably familiar with many of these deficiency diseases. Some well recognized illnesses include
rickets (vitamin D),
night blindness (vitamin A),
beriberi (vitamin D),
pellagra (niacin),
scurvy (vitamin C),
cardiovascular disease (magnesium),
muscle weakness (potassium),
muscle cramps (sodium),
bad teeth and bones (phosphorous),
anemia (iron),
depression (vitamin B7 / biotin),
osteoporosis (vitamin D and calcium),
birth defects (vitamin B9 / folate),
abnormal heart rhythms (calcium and potassium), and
goitre (iodine).

Why Nutrient Deficiencies Are Occurring

Our soil is the storehouse of nutrients. Minerals stored in the soil are absorbed by plant roots and make their way into the beans, nuts, fruits and vegetables that we consume daily.

But, unless nutrients in the soul are replaced, the nutrients in our foods will decrease.

Farmers know that to make their crops grow they need to use fertilizers. But, these fertilizers typically contain only phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium. These are the nutrients that form large strong plants. But, unless the soil is provided with copper, iron, selenium, or any of the 60 minerals required by the human body, the nutrient content of our foods decreases from year to year.

Another reason for nutrient decline is that farmers are using new varieties or hybrids that have higher yields (for example, new potato varieties that produce more potatoes per acre). As the yields go up the nutrient content of the food goes down.

A recent study by P.J. White and M. R. Broadley published in 2005 compared the nutrient content of vegetables, fruits and nuts from the 1930s to 2004. They found the iron content declined by about 70% while the calcium content droped by nearly 40%

Yet, the government’s position continues to be that “Most people get the amount of minerals they need by eating a wide variety of foods.”

Why M.D.s Do Not Emphasize Nutrition

The US National Library of Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health, conducted a survey of US medical schools in 2004. They surveyed medical schools that turn out M.D.s and asked about the nutritional training of medical doctors.

It turns out the 7% of schools offered no nutritional training or only optional training. 18% of the schools requires 10 hours or less of nutritional instruction. Less than half the schools provided the minimum of 25 hours recommended by the National Academy of Sciences way back in 1985.

More telling is that nutritional information is typically taught during the first 2 years of medical school as part of the basic science instruction. Nutrition does not get much emphasis later when students are in clinical settings interacting with patients.

It’s clear why most medical doctors do not emphasize nutrition. Instead, most medical doctors prescribe pharmaceutical drugs for illnesses or they want to cut out diseased organs.

Rather than prescribe essential nutrients that allow the body to heal itself, they prescribe drugs. They treat the symptoms of high cholesterol with drugs like Lipitor, high blood pressure is addressed with a calcium channel blocker, and heart disease is a chance to prescribe Midamor.

Unfortunately, pharmaceutical drugs do not address the causes of disease. Only essential nutrients can restore natural, healthy function to the body.

Introducing Dr. Joel Wallach

Dr. Joel Wallach started out with a very different perspective. He was raised on a farm and got his early education in agriculture, soil science and veterinary medicine.

He wondered why livestock received better nutrition than humans. Animals were given supplemental nutrients to keep them healthy, avoiding common illnesses like infertility, birth defects, heart disease, arthritis, and other degenerative diseases. But, he noted that humans were not receiving the complete nutrition they needed.

He learned in organic chemistry class that minerals are required for hundreds of life sustaining reactions. But, he also knew that the soil and the plants that grow in the soil did not contain all the necessary minerals. That’s why animals required supplemental nutrition to be healthy.

He performed thousands of autopsies on animals and humans. He saw the results of nutritional deficiencies that are common in both animals and humans. By looking at diseased organs, he could tell which nutrients were deficient in the diets of both animals and humans.

He became a naturopathic physician so he could treat humans with his nutritional formulations. Often his paitents would jokingly tell others that Dr. Wallach will treat you like a dog, but you will get better.

While he could reach only a limited number of people as a primary care physician, he felt the need to expand his message of health and vitality. So, he eventually created the Youngevity product line. This includes the “90 for Life” products that supply all the nutrients that you need for a long, vibrant life.

While nutriends do not by themselves heal any diseases, they help enable the body to function normally. And, the body can then deal with abnormal conditions. Dr. Wallach tells us that he has seen recovery of many degernerative diseases when the body is supplied with the proper nutrients.
